General Conduct

I am legally authorised to give driving tuition in the UK by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) I will always behave in a professional and ethical manner. My training car will be well maintained, clean and tidy (weather permitting). My car is fitted with dual controls and is fully insured for driving tuition purposes. Smoking is prohibited in the training car at any time. My car is my business and my livelihood, please treat it respectfully. Any neglectful conduct which results in damage to my car may incur a charge.

Driving Licence and eyesight

As required by law, you must hold a current, valid driving licence (provisional or full). In advance of your first driving lesson, I will carry out an online check for insurance purposes I will need to see your licence on your first lesson. Please see the document ‘Proving your entitlement to drive’ for details of how to generate a check code.

You must also check you can read a number plate at a distance of 20.5 metres (i.e., 67 feet – about 5 car lengths). Please note if you need contact lenses or glasses to achieve this, you must make sure you wear them on every driving lesson.

Safety, comfort, and wellbeing

Safety is a shared responsibility. 

In the interests of comfort and safety you are advised to wear suitable footwear and clothing for your lessons. Sliders or flip flops are not permitted. 

It is important that you act responsibly at all times and give your undivided attention to the task of driving. Should anything be distraction you during your lesson it is important that you make me aware of this. Similarly, if you begin to feel unwell or unable to focus, please let me know so I can adapt or rearrange the lesson. 

In an emergency it is important you follow my instructions and allow me to take control of the steering wheel if necessary to avoid and incident. I may also need to make use of the dual controls (brake, and/or clutch) and thus will override your use of these controls. As soon as it is safe to do so I will advise you of why my actions were necessary and help you to calm down if required Any subsequent discussion will focus on what can be learned rather than who was to blame.

You must inform me before the lesson of any medication which may affect your ability to drive. I reserve the right to terminate the lesson at any point if in my opinion your conduct, level of concentration or attitude towards other road users becomes unsafe. 

Driving under the influence 

To ensure the safety of you and other road users I reserve the right to cancel any lesson if you are or if I suspect you are under the influence of drugs, legal highs and/or alcohol (prescribed or otherwise). If this occurs the full training fee for the lesson will be lost.

Lesson postponement

You may lose, or be required to pay for, any lessons booked in my diary which are postponed or cancelled by you with less than 24 hours’ notice. However, I reserve the right to postpone lessons if I consider the weather or road conditions to be unsuitable or dangerous. Unfortunately, I cannot be held responsible for any costs incurred as a result of such postponement.

Punctuality

Please be on time for your lesson. If you are delayed for any reason, please let me know. I would normally wait for you for a maximum of 10 minutes before the lesson would be abandoned and the lesson fee forfeited. A reciprocal waiting time may become necessary if I am delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. I will make up any lesson time lost as a result of this at the end of the normal lesson time or as soon as possible. 

Payments

You are required to pay in advance for any lessons booked into my diary. There are two options:

· A block of ten lessons

· Pay as you go for individual lessons.

Payment for all lessons is by bank transfer. You will be invoiced weekly by email (unless you have purchased a block). Payment details are included on the invoice. If you cannot find the email in your inbox, please check your spam folder as it sometimes lands there. If no payment has been received 48 hours in advance of the lesson, it will be automatically cancelled.

Driving Tests

We will decide together the most appropriate time for your driving test. All driving tests will be booked and managed through me. You will be invoiced separately for this fee (£62) and payment is required on confirmation of booking. 

Test Cancellations

If once agreed, you are no longer able to take your test, please discuss this with me immediately so that we can move the date without any loss of fee. I require at least three weeks’ notice before the test if you are unable/not ready to take the test. Failure to give the required notice will result in the loss of your test fee.

COVID-19 – Safeguarding

If you are suffering from any symptoms of COVID or have had a positive test result within your household or close contacts, you must inform me immediately. This is your responsibility, and I will decide whether the lesson can go ahead. COVID-19 is extremely contagious, and I cannot guarantee that you will not be infected by COVID-19 during your lesson. I will endeavour to maintain the highest standards of hygiene and my car will be sanitized between lessons. By undertaking driving lessons with me you are agreeing to take full responsibility for any loss, cost, or expense you might incur should you contract COVID-19.

GDPR

It is a requirement that I hold personal information about your such as name, address, date of birth, telephone number, emergency contact and driving licence number. These are held securely and not passed on to any third party without your consent. It may be necessary to contact certain government agencies (DVSA) if we need to make any changes to driving tests etc, this will always be with your consent.

Upon completion of your training and successful completion of your driving test, I will ask for your consent to take a photo for my social media accounts.

All your personal information is securely stored for six years for accounting purposes and will be safely disposed of after this time.
